About
"How a diet plan became a cult"
This docuseries traces the rise of a Tennessee weight-loss ministry that morphed into an insular religious movement, and the control its charismatic leader exerted over followers' bodies, marriages, and finances. Told through interviews with former members, journalists, and archival footage, it moves from diet-culture curiosity into darker territory involving allegations of abuse and a shocking real-life tragedy. The tone is unsettling rather than sensational, favoring patient unpacking of how faith and food became tools of control. It rewards viewers who like true-crime documentaries that build slowly toward disturbing revelations about power and belief.
