About
"Nostalgic prequel that never finds its own voice"
A prequel to the classic movie Grease, this series rewinds four years to show how the Pink Ladies clique first formed at Rydell High. It's a candy-colored teen musical mixing 1950s setting with modern-feeling dialogue, pop-inflected songs, and issues-of-the-week plots about identity and belonging. The tone is earnest and bubbly rather than edgy, leaning on big musical numbers and a likable young cast to carry thin storylines. It plays more like a glossy teen dramedy with nostalgia trimmings than a faithful continuation of the film's tone, and never quite settles on what story it wants to tell.
the energetic musical numbers and a cast clearly having fun building this world.
you want anything resembling the original film's tone or sharp writing.
