About
"Coming-of-age nostalgia laced with real danger"
Set in working-class Brisbane during the 1980s, this is the story of a boy, Eli Bell, growing up in a household drawn into the drug trade through his mother's boyfriend. Narrated with a wistful, almost mythic voice, it blends childhood wonder with real danger, as loyalty, crime, and family bonds collide. The pace is unhurried and memory-driven, leaning on mood and performance rather than plot mechanics. It's tender, sometimes whimsical, sometimes bruising, carried by strong young leads and a strong sense of place and time.
the tender sibling bond and striking young performances anchoring a stylish crime saga.
you dislike dreamy, narration-heavy pacing over tightly plotted crime storytelling.
