About
"A family sitcom that argues with its own premise"
Kenya Barris plays a fictionalized version of himself: a wealthy TV creator navigating fatherhood, marriage, and constant self-aware debates about Blackness, privilege, and authenticity with his wife and six kids. Shot mockumentary-style with direct-to-camera confessionals, it's fast-talking, argumentative, and unapologetically pleased with its own cleverness. The tone is closer to a dinner-table debate than a traditional sitcom, mixing genuine family warmth with pointed cultural commentary. It works best if you enjoy rapid-fire dialogue and don't mind a show that constantly comments on itself.
the rapid-fire, self-aware family arguments about race, wealth, and identity.
you find meta, self-referential comedy or nonstop verbal sparring exhausting rather than fun.
