About
"Nightly satire that turned into political therapy"
A nightly network talk show where Stephen Colbert interviews celebrities, politicians, and cultural figures, opens with a topical monologue, and runs recurring comedy bits with his house band. It shifted from safer late-night fare into sharper, more overtly political commentary, especially during the first Trump era, becoming as much a nightly news digest with jokes as a traditional celebrity chat show. The pace is brisk and monologue-driven, the tone warm but increasingly pointed, and Colbert's own charisma, quick wit, and willingness to get earnest carry it more than any single recurring bit or guest segment.
Colbert's monologues, which turn nightly news into sharp, personal, often moving comedy.
