About
"A spy thriller that never quite trusts itself"
Nick Fury returns to Earth to find that shape-shifting Skrulls have spent decades secretly infiltrating governments and institutions, and a radicalized faction now wants to seize the planet for themselves. It's framed as a paranoid spy thriller rather than a superhero romp, heavy on betrayal and identity anxiety. The pace is slower and moodier than typical Marvel fare, leaning on tense conversations over spectacle. Reception was famously mixed, with many feeling the premise's potential for tension never quite paid off despite a strong cast and a genuinely unsettling central idea about trust.
the paranoid espionage premise and a rare serious, world-weary performance from Samuel L. Jackson.
