About

"Cold cases solved by warm, cranky old pros"

A sharp, no-nonsense detective is put in charge of a squad of three grumpy, semi-retired ex-coppers tasked with reopening London's unsolved cold cases. Each episode follows a new investigation, but the real pleasure is the bickering, banter and mismatched chemistry between the leads as they clash with modern policing methods. It's cosy, comfortable crime telly: gentle pacing, warm humour, low violence, and a strong sense of camaraderie. Cases are solid but rarely shocking; the show trades on character rather than twists, making it easy, undemanding weekly viewing.

Watch it for

the crackling banter between its mismatched retired-detective leads carries every episode.

Maybe skip if

you want gritty, high-stakes crime drama rather than character-driven comfort viewing.

Amanda Redman also stars as the unit's reluctant commander, assigned to the team after an embarrassing incident halted her ambitious career plans. Needing to redeem herself in the eyes of her superiors, she runs a tight ship -- and that leads to clashes with the very unconventional older trio whom she commands.
