About

"Quiet folklore anthology about nature's strange, sad logic"

Ginko is a wandering "mushishi," an expert on mushi: ancient, ghostlike lifeforms that blur into the natural world and quietly disrupt human lives. Each episode drops him into a new village to untangle a strange affliction rooted in one of these creatures. The show is hushed, painterly, and unhurried, more folklore anthology than plot-driven drama. There's little action; instead it lingers on atmosphere, texture, and small human sorrows. It rewards patience and quiet attention, feeling less like a story with a destination and more like a series of eerie, melancholy fables you sit with one at a time.

Watch it for

the hypnotic, painterly atmosphere and its wistful, self-contained folklore stories.

Maybe skip if

you want serialized plot, action, or fast pacing rather than slow, contemplative mood pieces.

They are neither plants nor animals. They differ from other forms of life such as the micro-organisms and the fungi. Instead they resemble the primeval body of life and are generally known as "Mushi". Their existence and appearance are unknown to many and only a limited number of humans are aware of them. Ginko is a "Mushi-shi" who travels around to investigate and find out more about the "Mushi". In the process, he also lends a helping hand to people who face problems with supernatural occurances which may be related to the "Mushi".
