About
"An action legend spoofs himself with surprising heart"
Jean-Claude Van Johnson stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as a fictionalized version of himself: a washed-up action star who has secretly been a deep-cover operative all along, using his movie shoots as spy missions. The show is a strange, likable mix of genuine espionage plotting, deadpan meta-comedy about fame and aging, and surprisingly earnest romance. It leans slower and more melancholy than a typical action-comedy, riding almost entirely on Van Damme's willingness to send up his own legend with real vulnerability. Tonally it wobbles, but its oddball sincerity makes it more memorable than its short run suggests.
Van Damme's fearless, oddly moving self-parody of his own action-hero mythology.
you want fast, straightforward action comedy rather than a slow, melancholic meta-drama.
