About
"A background character fights his way into frame"
Willis Wu is a background character, literally: a waiter in a restaurant who dreams of being more than set dressing in the cop show that seems to be running his whole city. When he witnesses something that pulls him into the actual investigation, the show starts bending its own rules, mixing police-procedural parody with a sharp, personal story about visibility, identity, and who gets to be the lead. It's playful and formally inventive, shifting aspect ratios and tone on a dime, anchored by real feeling under the meta jokes.
the inventive way it turns genre-show cliches into a personal story about visibility.
you want a straightforward procedural rather than one that keeps commenting on itself.
