About
"Stylish Roman crime solved with a shrug and a smirk"
Zen follows Aurelio Zen, a rare honest detective navigating Rome's police bureaucracy, where corruption and office politics can be as dangerous as the criminals he chases. Adapted from Michael Dibdin's novels, the show trades gritty procedural grit for glossy, sun-drenched style: sharp suits, scooters, villas, and wry Italian intrigue. It moves briskly, more character study and atmosphere than deep mystery, carried by a charismatic lead performance and a knowing sense of humor about institutional dysfunction. Handsome to look at and easy to watch, it feels like a stylish European crime postcard rather than a dense whodunit.
Rufus Sewell's effortlessly charming performance as a detective too honest for his own good.
you want gritty, plot-heavy mysteries rather than breezy style and institutional satire.
