About
"A tender romance swallowed by historical tragedy"
Set in Gwangju, South Korea in 1980, this Korean drama follows a shy medical student and a determined young woman whose budding romance unfolds against the backdrop of a real historical uprising against military rule. It starts as a gentle, almost comedic slow-burn love story before shifting into something far heavier as political violence closes in on the characters' lives. The tone swings from warm and nostalgic to devastating, anchored by tender performances and a period setting that feels lived-in rather than decorative. It's a patient watch that rewards emotional investment.
the way a sweet, old-fashioned love story is quietly built up before history intrudes on it.
you want a purely light romance, since the historical backdrop turns genuinely heavy and heartbreaking.
