It trades the original's fairy-tale warmth for grittier themes: trauma, authoritarianism, and personal doubt, wrapped in the same gorgeous martial-arts animation. Pacing is uneven, especially early on, as the show found its footing across four tonally distinct seasons. But when it clicks, it delivers some of the best-choreographed action and most emotionally mature storytelling in Western animation, culminating in a genuinely moving finale.
