About
"Raw sci-fi ideas, unfiltered and unfinished"
Oats Studios was filmmaker Neill Blomkamp's experiment in bypassing the traditional studio system, releasing a string of short sci-fi and horror films directly online. There's no single ongoing story; instead you get a grab-bag of standalone concepts, from monster invasions to robotic warfare, some of which later evolved into feature ideas. Watching it feels like flipping through a demo reel of ambitious, gritty visual effects wrapped around blunt, often violent genre premises. Quality swings wildly between shorts, but the best ones hit with startling intensity and imagination rarely seen outside big-budget filmmaking.
the startlingly polished visual effects achieved on what was essentially an indie budget.
you want a cohesive story rather than a scattershot batch of standalone experiments.
