About
"A funny, sad portrait of academic burnout"
Bob Odenkirk plays Hank Devereaux, the weary chairman of a mediocre college's English department, quietly unraveling as middle age, a stalled writing career, and departmental politics close in on him. The show is a wry, melancholy character study more than a plot-driven comedy: slow, dialogue-heavy, and steeped in academic absurdity and regret. It leans on Odenkirk's deadpan performance and sharp, literate writing rather than big laughs or forward momentum. If you enjoy character-first storytelling about disappointment and self-sabotage, it rewards patience, but it never quite escalates into anything urgent.
Bob Odenkirk's understated, wounded performance as a man quietly falling apart.
you need strong plot momentum rather than slow character-driven melancholy.
