About
"A curse-laced family drama disguised as fluffy comedy"
Tohru Honda, a kind-hearted orphan, ends up living with the mysterious Sohma family and discovers their secret: certain members transform into zodiac animals whenever they're hugged by the opposite sex. What starts as gentle comedy about an odd shared household slowly reveals deep family trauma and quiet heartbreak underneath. The pacing is soft and episodic at first, carried by warm character moments and Tohru's relentless empathy, before tightening into more emotional territory. It's cozy and melancholy in equal measure, though this original adaptation is gentler and less complete than later versions of the story.
the tender, slow-burn character writing beneath the gentle zodiac-curse comedy premise.
you want the full manga story, since this version softens and rushes the ending.
